Over the past two years, the #MeToo movement has brought to light widespread sexual harassment in these industries and many more. In response, many state governments are looking for ways to protect people in the workplace.

Currently five states require employers to provide different levels of sexual harassment training to management and employees, with legislation coming soon in three additional states.

Even if you don't live in a state that mandates sexual harassment training, you should consider offering it to your employees. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) reports bringing 50% more sexual harassment lawsuits in 2018 compared to 2017. If your company is ever named in a lawsuit, being able to show that you took harassment seriously and provided comprehensive training to your employees could protect you. And of course, you want your company to be a place where employees are safe and the culture is healthy.

The LMC Group recommends covering sexual harassment as part of your onboarding process with each new employee. We also suggest a yearly refresher course for your entire team.

Protect your employees and your business by scheduling sexual harassment training sessions. The LMC Group can provide the training specific to your state’s requirements and ensure you are in compliance. If your state does not require this training, you can offer it as a preventative measure.

Email LMC's Director of Human Resources Christina Davis at christina@lmc.group for more information. And if you are at the International LCT Show 2019, go see her at Booth #461 from 4:00-5:30 on Monday, March 25, or noon-5:00 on Tuesday, March 26.
